The Annapolis Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the afternoon of May 15 at an apartment building on Bay Forest Court. First-arriving units found a fire on a second-floor balcony that had been successfully contained by the activation of a single sprinkler head.
The rapid suppression prevented the fire from extending into the apartment or causing damage to adjacent units. According to the department, there was no fire or water damage inside the apartment itself. No injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced.
“This incident is another powerful reminder that sprinkler systems save lives,” said Annapolis Fire Chief Doug Remaley in a statement. “Because of the working sprinkler system, occupants were able to safely exit the building, and the fire was contained before it could spread into the apartment or throughout the structure.”
Crews from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department also responded to the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Fire Investigation Bureau.
